Lancelot's review
of this soundtrack CD:
by Lancelot on 6/9/2000 Wow. An amazing blending of genres. Randy Edelman seems to have let no dust settle on his desk during the first half of 2000. The midpoint is a fantastic effort that mixes atmospheric, pensive Oriental music with a boisterous, adventurous Western flavor. I am tempted to say this score is very much like a John Williams score in parts, and I certainly say this with the greatest respect intended for both composers. Not having seen the movie, I am hesitant now, for shattering what plays in my head as an epic (mock-epic?) adventure. Mr. Edelman has not disappointed in providing apt "summer" scores in the past, such as Six Days, Seven Nights. Shanghai Noon is no exception. For a highly original approach to a seemingly far-fetched concept, this one does not disappoint. There is action, suspense, comedy, and a gentle, romantic "princess" theme. My compliments to Varese on the impressive running time, as well. This is well worth it. see all reviews, or add a review
