Filmmusic Lover's review
of this soundtrack CD:
by Filmmusic Lover on 11/29/2000 favorite track: 15 It seems the Golden Age of filmscoring reappears in the work of John Williams. From first listening I fell in love with the catchy themes. The string sections are very well crafted and the score is superbly performed. One wouldn't expect anything less from Williams. The action pieces are truly impressive ("Preparing for Battle" and "Martin vs. Tavington"). There is some heartbreaking material as well. "The Death of Thomas" is a very haunting and powerfull piece of music. The wonder of it all is that it matches the film extremely well. You should go and see it. This score is the best I've heard this year, although I do like the score for Gladiator. But listen close and you'll hear that the Patriot score is far more refined.
