by peter on 8/13/2001 favorite track: 14 This score deserves a good, close listen. Without one, we'll miss the veiled brilliance of Amenabar's music created for his first English-language film. Along with the film's photography, the music certainly helps paint the mood of the film. However, it's much more complex than a splattering of the latest cliched shades of gray, as heard in most typical horror scores of late. This score's classic main theme is intriguingly manipulated in varying degrees throughout the film - sometimes we'll recognize it, sometimes we won't. The shape of this music score changes in the darkness, and unless we shed our pleasures of listening to loud, bright movie music from the likes of a blockbuster score penned by Hans Zimmer or John Williams, we'll certainly miss the complex, mysterious and haunting quality heard in the music for The Others. see all reviews, or add a review
