diachenko's review
of this soundtrack CD:
by diachenko on 7/6/2008 My problem with John Debney's big orchestral scores is that, with the exception of Cutthroat Island, he sounds too much like John Williams. Debney likes to write in the style that Williams inherited from Rosza and Korngold, which is great, but he tends to lose his own voice, and he doesn't create the kind of memorable themes that this style needs. It sounds more like a Williams imitator than a continuation of that tradition. Debney has proved with Cutthroat Island, The Ant Bully, and (in a very different style) Passion of the Christ, that he has his own wonderful style and voice. Meet Dave was just rather distractingly unoriginal. On the other hand, it is an enjoyable and fun listen, so I don't regret buying the album. But it suffers in comparison with Debney's better efforts, and in the end is an unmemorable experience. see all reviews, or add a review
