When I first listened to this soundtrack (on this site, I might mention), I was compelled to go out and buy it. It was worth the money (and boy, was it ever expensive in England, at about 23 pounds). Never have I listened to a soundtrack that actually brought tears to my eyes--and be sure, I absolutely WEPT after hearing "Cora"!!! All the tracks are amazing, and I especially liked the way it ended, with Clannad's "I Will Find You." I still love the line "In the place with no frontiers..." I'm not sure why, but I just adored it. This soundtrack will take your breath away, even if you didn't like the film (though I don't see how anyone could have disliked it...). A MUST!

Perhaps the two most talked about elements in this Michael Mann film are the music and cinematography. The manipulative power an audience succombs to when experiencing these masterfully combined elements prove that filmmaking is an art, and that art is most certainly an emotional craft. Composers Trevor Jones and Randy Edelman were both inspired by the cinematography, and independently wrote compelling and evocative music for the parts of the film assigned to them. While the film is set in the early days of American expansion, the music rarely relies on 18th century instrumentation. Both composers successfully strive to capture the sense of danger, exhilaration, splendor and romance of living in such uncertain times. With more than 500,000 soundtrack albums sold to date, the power of this music assuredly strikes a unanimous chord with those wanting to relive the emotional art of filmmaking through music.

Did somebody say epic? This soundtrack serves it up: dynamic, heartfelt, wistful and breathtaking in equal measures, it combines Celtic rhythm with very effective strings (what can I tell you, I'm a sucker for strings) in a most fitting musical accompaniment to the classic tale of love, honor and adventure that is "The Last of the Mohicans." I had a hard time choosing between tracks 3 and 13 as my favorite - the former embodies the blood-pumping, climactic nature of the adventure, while the latter underlines its more human, softer aspects. In the end, "Cora" wins. This film is one of the few in its genre that manages to juggle danger and tenderness successfully, and the score continues this tradition even without the magnificent Canadian vistas: after the sheer adrenalin of the chase, the last few tracks will melt your insides, guaranteed. This goes especially for the haunting female vocal in the last track repeating over and over again: "Wherever you go, I will find you..." Believe me, it's not nearly as tacky as it sounds: let "The Last of the Mohicans" find YOU.

The score for The Last of the Mohicans is a very emotional soundtrack. The Main Theme particulary is very beautiful. When you listen to the music you can't help thinking about those heroic good guys in the movie or the dramatic battle scenes.

There is only one think I find strange about this soundtrack, when I listen to it, I get the feeling I'm in Ireland. I think many people who've heard this soundtrack would agree with me on that. But never the less this doesn't harm the overall soundtrack at all because it's a damn good soundtrack.

What is there to tell about this score... It contains some great music! Well crafted. Two star rating you will ask?!!! Yes, unfortunately so! The music itself is not so bad (especially the celtic cues - very enjoyable) but it's the performance!!!! You cannot produce an epic score with a 10 piece orchestra, which is what this recording sounds like!!! Everything sounds very empty, the tympani strikes included! This score deserved to be played by a great orchestra. The LSO perhaps or one of those outstanding studio orchestras. Because of this dreadful release, it makes not a good soundtrack... (I have the same feeling with Kamen's Robin Hood - great music, awful performance). Perhaps an established conductor will perform this score with the dignity it deserves.

James Fenimore Cooper's classic is always a wonderful adventure story - this time with a fantastic and moving score by Trevor Jones and Randy Edelman, two of the most popular and respected composers today. The collaboration between the two composers makes this a strong and unique score, extremely popular, and a world-wide seller even today.

Trevor Jones sets his sights high and hits the mark perfectly with Mohicans. The real standout is the "Main Theme," which is simply magnificent and epic in proportion. The theme appears in several cues with majestic written all over it.

Another highlight is Edelman's "Cora," a beautiful and flowing, serenely sensitive, welcome addition to an already spectacular score.

Mohicans is an outstanding score from two heavyweight composers, and was nominated by the Academy for Best Dramatic Score of 1992. This is one not to be missed - truly a classic score from two classic composers!

Mohicans was one of the most exciting movies I have seen in a very long time. It proves you can have movies with music exciting enough to feel the love and the kiss and yet the danger that is felt when the warriors and soldiers are fighting. I purchased the video and still find more and more things I like about the music and the acting. I have the soundtrack also and find myself remembering the movie over and over. I thought it was a great film and the music was very inspiring. A must see movie!!

This music has it all for me. Dynamic, romantic and tuneful. "Promentory" is probably the most sincere and was not written by either Edelman or Jones, but based on a Dougie MacLean song. As a real fan of the movie, I must correct a statement in a review by "Mirna" - this movie was shot for the most part in North Carolina, around the Biltmore estate. I have visited these sites. A riveting movie and terrific soundtrack. Rudy

I thought this piece of music was absolutly oustanding! Everything about it added to the atmosphere and the emotions that the characters were supposed to play. Totally a remarkable performance on the composer(s) behalf!

I have heard a lot of soundtracks, and this is my pick for best soundtrack of all time. It is so beautiful, yet so powerful. Hope Trevor Jones does another soundtrack soon. Also liked his In the Name of the Father soundtrack.

I just saw this movie the other day, and I have to say that I was touched by the score. The music to this film is so powerful it did make me cry - it is beautiful all the same though. Everyone should definitely buy this soundtrack - the music is just the best. I myself am a fan of movie music and scores (I play cello in orchestra). Anyway everyone should listen to this music because it's so awesome!

I'm nearly 26 years old, I heard this soundtrack when I was somewhere around 17-18. Ever since then, this has been my "go to" album for studying, sleeping, relaxing, etc. It never loses its strengths. This soundtrack is vivid and full, you will not be disappointed.

This is among the best soundtracks ever written in the history of film music! I am Dj on the radio and I had excellent reactions from listeners, no matter how old this music is today. To me and to our listeners, this music is never old and will never die. It is of a divine inspiration and among the best works of Trevor Jones and Randy Edelman. CD Radio Napoca

Fabulous! A moving, wonderful piece of movie music magic! I saw this film when it first came out, and I immediately searched for the soundtrack. Unfortunately, I had to wait until it was released... and then I played it every chance I got! It has great meaning and feeling for a time in my life when I had to stand up and say, "I will not live under that yoke...."

I absolutley loved the film - it has the most compelling story line ever. A man fighting for what and who he loved, willing to give his own life for others. The soundtrack is also amazing especially "The Kiss." I love the Celtic feeling through it, since I am Scottish. I love this type of music. But outta all of Scottish CDs I own, this is my favorite. I would recommend that everyone should buy this!!

When I first saw this movie in 70mm, the opening theme hit me more than the visual scenery. During the climax, the score got the dramatic effect in.

This is the best score from a film for me... no other soundtrack could touch this one, though Legends of the Fall, The Mission, Kama Sutra, Salaam Bombay, Saving Private Ryan, Chariots of Fire, Gladiator, etc., are very effective scores. The Last of the Mohicans cannot be surpassed. It has the sounds of nature, the spirit of native america, the pangs of destruction and what conceit brings.... whether after watching the movie or without watching it, at any given time of the day, this music reminds you of the spirit and romance, of sacrifice and courage, of course there is gloom, but also inspiration. Kudos to Michael Mann for having Trevor Jones deliver this magic.... music truly meant for 70mm.

I give all 4 stars because Trevor Jones has created a fantastic, sweeping, memorable theme for this picture. Fantastic theme, but that's all. Very regrettably uninteresting ethnic underscore (if only the rest of the score maintained the same quality as the theme!).

"Promentory" is probably one of the most-used tracks in commercials, trailers, etc. This music is sooo emotional and so beautiful. Another great track, "The Kiss," basically follows along the same theme as "Promentory" but with a beautiful gaelic fiddle, which I've never heard matched in any theme. This is one of those "must-have" scores that completes a collection. Gorgeous music.

What can I really say about a score like this? It's excellent! Really liked the melodic and admittedly, addictive main theme which makes its presence notable throughout the whole score with many variations and renditions. The instrumentation of the score is really interesting as well, along with the way each and every instrument is used in order to create a constant, dense veil onto which the main theme and the other motifs are being laid. This score's sound feels full and accomplished. Plus, the end credit song reminded me a lot of Zimmer's "Tell Me Now (What You See)" by Moya Brennan on the later King Arthur score.

This soundtrack blows me away. From the softer, sad and beutiful "Cora" to the trademark Main Theme and the celtic influences, this epic soundtrack has it all and has really made the movie come true for me. Top stuff.

The music in this movie deserves a place on the cast. Powerful, direct, personal and in place with the period and the times. It is at once heart lifting and heart-rending. The movie is itself magnificent and the fusion of the music with the film has given the whole, life, and created an outstanding cinematic treasure.
