craig's review
of this soundtrack CD:
by craig on 11/7/2004 Everytime I entered this score into the MovieMusic "finder," it registered "no info." I am now so glad this CD is in the listings (probably because of all my tries). A very poignant opening to this score, which is a rarity to come by, moves into some humorous territory. With Buddy Guy's "We're Ready" or "Trouble in Mind" by King Curtis, ya feel the sort-of ineptitude when these two "tough guys" make their way to a job handed to them for reparations, for their debt to a loan shark, sorta like things just ain't gonna go their way. Mr Marionelli's score, at times, is as bleak and cold as the weather in Ireland. The bluesy harmonica instills a kind of child-like characteristic in both of the two main characters. On their way to their quarry, they bicker, fight, make easily avoidable mistakes, and at times stick up for each other. The score is excellent in conveying that comraderie. The CD also includes the right incidental dialogue (which never hurts a score, in my opinion), showing some bright spots outside of a characters ignorance. Although all but one of the score's tracks are no longer then a minute and and 25 seconds, the longest being the last track, Marionelli's "Epilogue." I wished some of them were extended a bit more because this is some great music. I can't wait until this movie makes it to DVD. see all reviews, or add a review
