diachenko's review
of this soundtrack CD:
by diachenko on 5/13/2008 This score has two things going for it: 1) it worked great in the movie, and 2) it's certainly an adrenaline rush that's somewhat enjoyable to listen to on its own. That said, I was left wondering what could have been. I would love to know what Steve Jablonsky would have done with this movie. He is just as much a master of action writing as any Remote Control composer, but he he has a great flair for epic themes (see Transformers, Steamboy, and D-Wars) that is missing in Djawadi's music. And John Powell or Hans Zimmer would have taken Iron Man to greater heights. This is not a terrible score, just very low on thematic material of any kind. This approach can work in the right hands - Batman Begins is notoriously lacking of a large theme, but that score just works for me on every level. But Djawadi tends to fall into generic action music that doesn't seem to have much cohesion, even on a motivic level. The movie was so good, it deserved a better musical companion. see all reviews, or add a review
