by craig on 11/9/2004 favorite track: 13 This is a score that just drips the blues. To have such lead talent with the likes of John Lee Hooker, Miles Davis and Taj Mahal, with music composed by Jack Nitzsche, makes this one a lost gem to get your hands on. Moanin, moanin, moanin is the grumble you get from John Lee Hooker as he basically presides over the atmosphere in "Comin to Town." His whiny hum on "Harry and Dolly" is almost like listening to him say "no, don't do it! Ya don't know what you're in for!" THe never-ending misery is next handed to Taj Mahal on "Empty Bank," as he illustrates the coyote with the shadowy past who's found his way in town, in from the heat with some dangerous ideas. The music reflects the slow days in the pounding heat and unrelenting sun where a cold Coke just doesn't cut it. "Dolly's Arrival" is slow and sexy, just like the character... and what a snappy tune the "End Credits" is. Fantastic! This is probably the best blues-type of score to have. In fact, it's the only one I know of! Truly, a hot score to have in your collection. see all reviews, or add a review
