I rate Hook in John Williams' top five scores among Jurassic Park and Star Wars. I still cannot believe how John Williams can come up with such familiar themes every time he creates a new score. Hook is no exception.
The film is fantastic. Robin Williams and Dustin Hoffman playing an aged Peter Pan and Hook himself. There is always a battle going on between Pan and Hook, and John Williams amplifies the action with tracks like "The Ultimate War." "Granny Wendy" is a beautiful, soft theme to convey the gentleness of Wendy. The best piece in the score is "Remembering Childhood." The track starts out when Jack hits the homerun in the film and the crowd goes wild. It continues on to where Peter finds the old tree and meets tinkerbell. The end of the track, though, is the best musical moment in the entire score. Peter finds his happy thought and becomes Peter Pan. The main theme is beauiful with its percussion and adventurous with its brass. So bombastic and thrilling.
This score made the movie better than it already is; and the movie was good. Spielberg and Williams are the perfect dynamic duo. This score belongs in your collection.
