Soundtrack is strongly sentimental and definitely has a very specific mood, mostly due to the fact that I don't understand French that much. And I like it that way. Maybe this soundtrack opens up for someone else more who knows the language. Soundtrack is partly orchestra music, with some tracks sung by Nicole Croisille and Pierse Barouch.
Personally I partly enjoyed this soundtrack. When I didn`t understand the lyrics, my mind started playing around different scenarious about what the vocals are about, and even better, my mind started to make its own decisions about what the music is suppose to represent. That is very interesting feeling.
This soundtrack, at times, can hopefully (not guaranteed) help you get closer emotionally with your sweetheart (at those precious tender moments in your life) with tracks like "Samba Saravah," "Today It's You," "Stronger Than Us" and "In Our Shadows." At times the soundtrack can even drive you crazy because of three similar (almost identical) variations of the main theme, which started to be too much for myself, but maybe it's not too much for someone who absolutely loves the song. My sentimentality limits were crossed, I guess.
The actual film was apparently a popular love story in the 60s, which won an Oscar in the best foreign film category. It is a drama about a young widow and widower who fall in love. I feel the soundtrack still is better than the actual movie, as an experience. If you want to impress someone, then get this music. After all, this soundtrack is about 40 years old at the time of this review.
