pepsukka's review
of this soundtrack CD:
by pepsukka on 8/22/2005 favorite track: 4 I am surprised this score hasn't been reviewed yet. For all Goldsmith fans, this score is highly recommended. Score is based on electronics and synthesizers. This expanded (over 64 min of music) issue has over 15 minutes of previously unreleased music (never-before-released and music which was recorded for but not used in final film). This score is said to be a modern western, where old world orchestral film scoring is blended with new-world electronics, resulting in a contemporary Goldsmith classic... which the actual film is probably not. Walter Hill has directed this neo-western about two boyhood friends who eventually end up being on opposite sides of the law.
Soundtrack comes with interesting liner notes, which makes it even more valuable. Overall score keeps tempo exciting, action-oriented and sometimes gently slowing down into a more "waiting attitude" tone. This raises expectations and curiousity for listener to wonder what will happen next. Just according to expectations, Jerry warms up the heat so the listener doesn't get exhausted, but keeps listener interested all the way through the last track. see all reviews, or add a review
