pianoman's review
of this soundtrack CD:
by pianoman on 1/4/2005 I have always been a follower of Robert Zemeckis and his collaboration with Alan Silvestri, a composer who has provided great scores like Back to the Future, Forrest Gump and the very short but sweet Cast Away music. Contact is my favourie, mainly because I enjoy low-profile scores that get little recognition from time to time, rather than always going with the crowd.
The theme is wonderful and shows the fragility of the main character. This is a short score and the incidental music, or the lack of underscore in large sections of the film, is a true downside to the final product on CD. The better moments in the score, with the exception of the End Credits suite (which has some of my favourite movie music), is the action underscore heard in "Good to Go," "Ellie's Bogey" and "Test Run Bomber."
I always keep this music close to my heart because I love the story in the film and how the music uplifts Jodie Foster's brilliant performance in the key scenes in the film. This a sci-fi drama, so there is plenty of synths, many moments resembling Goldsmith's Star Trek underscrore cues. I find it hard to recommend the score to others, but I urge you to see the film so you can see what I mean. see all reviews, or add a review
