Silva's release offers some of the most romantic collection of themes from both recent and classic films. The music is pure power with the City of Prague Philharmonic conducted by Kenneth Alwyn. The album centers around score themes, rather than songs, which is a plus.
Standouts include Much Ado About Nothing, with its comical theme and powerful brass section (the wonderful performance could crack windows - a tribute to Silva and orchestra); Wuthering Heights and Romeo & Juliet both have tight arrangements, performed with flying colors; Trevor Jones' love theme from The Last of the Mohicans, one of the best and most haunting themes of the 90s, is just incredible.
Patrick Doyle's Sense and Sensibility and Hamlet are superb. Pride and Prejudice, by composer Carl Davis, gives this score a genuinely classical sound and is simply beautiful.
Selections are overall good, but the stand outs give this album a shot in the arm - Silva presents sweeping, flowing scores which film score collectors search for!
