I must make mention of the past projects this group of musicians and singers have collaborated on - "Cinema Choral Classics," "Cinema Choral Classics II," "Cinema's Classic Romances," and this, "Cinema Choral Classics - Apocalpyse," is no exception... BRILLIANT!
The stand outs include "The Sonnenscheins" from Sunshine (Maurice Jarre), which brings the composer to the plain made prevalent in Doctor Zhivago and Lawrence of Arabia... this man never ceases to amaze me; The Last Valley (John Barry) - I can never say enough about the melodic phrasing this man brings to a score, over 40 years and holding.
The highlight pick is Glory (James Horner) - the dynamic arrangement and performance of the "Charging Fort Wagner" leaves the listener exhilarated and on a music high, which proves most "film-score-buffs" are no more than Music Junkies. Gotta love it!
Under the watchful eye of producer James Fitzpatrick, choir master David Temple and the Crouch End Festival Chorus, conductors Nic Raine and Paul Bateman with The City Of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra... plus the original soundtrack orchestra performing Wojciech Kilar's The Ninth Gate... is mesmerizing, almost hypnotic in substance, beautiful solo by Charlotte Kinder.
Entire album is a must have for "film-score-buffs" and if Silva Screen Classics continue, my collection will go through the rafters. Can any of you relate to this dilemma? Be truthful now!
